Advanced Viral Research Corp. Reports Progress of AVR118 Phase II Cancer Cachexia Study at McGill University

Advanced Viral Research Corp. announced that enrollment for its Phase II efficacy study for AVR118 in cancer cachexia is progressing in line with expectations. The Phase II trial, initiated in October 2007, is being conducted at McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in Montreal, Quebec. The open label study is examining the effects of a 4.0 ml subcutaneous dose of AVR118 on lean muscle mass, alertness, energy/mobility, mood and fatigue and other measures of quality of life in patients with recurrent or advanced malignancies. AVR118 is administered daily for a trial period of 28 days. Patients who appear to benefit from the trial period dosing will be eligible to continue on AVR118, generating longer term efficacy data. Enrollment initially includes 14 patients between the ages of 18 and 85 who have recurrent or advanced malignancies and are suffering from symptoms of achexia including muscle wasting, severe fatigue and loss of appetite.

ADVR Announces Research Collaboration with Northeastern University

Advanced Viral Research Corp. announced a research agreement with Northeastern University. ADVR scientists will be working with the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology to identify how compounds such as AVR118, a Phase II clinical candidate, interact with clinically relevant molecular targets associated with cancer. In addition to providing greater clarity into how AVR118 exerts its cytoprotective effects, this work is expected to provide valuable insights for producing new generations of product with greater potency and ease of administration. Another important goal of this agreement is to apply ADVR´s innovative AFP Technology to identify new compounds with anti-cancer activity. In combination with Northeastern´s world-renowned MS and NMR analytical capabilities, the AFP Technology is expected to improve the efficiency of discovering new lead compounds.
